Brisbane Catholic Education has been given the go ahead to build a new primary school on Halletts Road at Redbank Plains.

The first two stages (of eight) will include classrooms, an administration building, covered PE space, canteen, play space and IT area to accommodate up to 186 students and 18 staff. Once it is fully developed, it will have enough classrooms and facilities to cater for about 780 students and 50 staff.

It’s being built in a booming area. Redbank Plains is consistently among the city’s fastest growing suburbs, with council’s latest Planning and Development Quarterly Activity Report ranking it first for population growth.

Ipswich has a great community feel and it is the people who make Ipswich such a great place to live and work. Ipswich First has put together a list of some things which are really going gangbusters across the city.

Building boom

Costco Bundamba is on track to be ready by Christmas.

The refurbished Masters Home Improvement store at Springfield will soon be turned into a mini mall of shops.

A development application has been lodged with council for various facilities, including a restaurant, food and drink outlets, chemist, childcare centre, 24-hour gym, medical centre, play centre, retail shops and showrooms.

The building at Southern Cross Circuit is expected to take shape over coming months.

Development applications have also been lodged for a new playground at Springfield Central Shopping Centre, an expansion of health city in Springfield and a parcel distribution centre at Redbank. Ripley Town Centre is expanding with a $40 million first instalment recently opened.

Building the missing link will give faster access for local residents in communities like Redbank Plains and Redbank. The new access route to Centenary Highway will be linking to Brisbane and the new Greater Springfield, the 2nd largest master planned community after Canberra.

This short 2km road construction project will have a massive positive implication for local residents, connecting them to major arterial network. The redistribution of traffic through this suburban road improvement is vital for people to the new communities’ daily lifestyle and employment options.

Cr David Morrison said work could now officially begin at the Ashburn Rd site to build the retail warehouse, which will be the equivalent in size to two football fields. Cr Morrison said the US Company had set an opening date for between September and December 2018. “The accessibility of the site to a large regional catchment with good access to Ipswich, the western corridor of metropolitan Brisbane and regional areas further west, which is expected to grow, interested Costco most.

“The proposed development will provide a net community benefit through investment in the local area, potentially acting as a catalyst for investment in the region, and will contribute to local employment initially through construction then long-term sustainable employment through the operational phase of the use.”

Division 4 Councillor Kylie Stoneman said Costco would be a huge boost to the area as the premises would employ 330 full-time and part-time staff, open seven days a week with extended trading hours, provide 823 on-site car parking spaces, and discount petrol at its service station.

The Federal Government has given approval for NSW to build its intercity fleet maintenance facility on the Central Coast. This new facility is going to create 200 to 300 new jobs. The economic benefits to the area, on the back of this new job creation are going to be huge.
